The sitting position and the side effects of spinal anesthesia

Abstract (EN)
In our study our purpose was comparing the effect of spinal anesthesia for motor and sensory block levels against hemodynamic response applied to patients who lie on their side or sit which were subjected to small scaled urological operations.124 patients whom their consents are taken before between 18 and 80 years of age were included to the study for ASA I or II small scaled urological operations. Arbitrary 64 patients (Group O) on sitting position and 60 patients (Group Y) on side-lying position are subjected to spinal anesthesia. All medical cases are monitored with non-invasive methods and systolic blood pressure, diastolic blood pressure, average blood pressure, pulse rate and oxygen saturation values are recorded when going into operating room and during the 2nd, 4th, 6th, 8th, 10th, 15th, 20th, 25th and 30th minutes of the surgery. At the same time, sensory block levels by using pinprick test and motor block levels by using modified Bromage scale are synchronously and individually evaluated and recorded for both right and left side of the body.MDBS value for the right side of the body has increased to T8 for 32% of Group O and T10 for 35% of Group Y. For the left side of the body, T10 value has been specified as MDBS for 31% of Group O and 40% of Group Y. A significant difference has not been observed between two groups. MMBS value observed on patients, is on average Bromage 3 (1-3) level for Group O due to similar values for left and right side of the body and on average Bromage 3 (2-3) level with no difference on both sides for Group Y. A statistical difference has not been observed between two groups. MDBUS value has been observed as; approximately 8 (6-10) minutes for right side on Group O, approximately 8 (4-10) minutes for left side on Group Y and approximately 8 (6-10) minutes for the left side on both groups with no difference between them. A significant difference for MDBUS value has not been observed between two groups. MMBUS value has been determined approximately 4 (2-6) minutes for right and left sides on Group O, 3.5 (2-5,5) minutes for the right side and 3 (2-6) minutes for the left side on Group Y. There was no difference between the groups. A minimal decrease has been observed for systolic, diastolic and average blood pressure values according to initial data but any difference between the groups has not been observed. During all surgical operation, saturation value for oxygen has been changed between 95 or 96 % and again no difference has been observed between two groups.As a result, it has been observed that spinal anesthesia applied to sitting or side-lying patients has not provided any difference for motor and sensory block levels and also has not provided a difference hemodynamically.
