Corrosion defects faced in overhauling period of the ships and fixing methods of these problems

Corrosion can be defined as the reaction of metals and alloys with environment.Nationaleconomical load caused by the corrosion such as ?material-energy-information-labor force? isapproximately 3,5-5 per cent of national income.Total corrosion loss is 4,36 per cent ofnational income in Turkey. Besides, corrosion is a change which causes environmentalpollution, human health problems and also financial losses.Most important corrosion environment can be listed as ?water-air-earth?.Main corrosiveelement in this triangular is water and vapour.Metalic surfaces both in atmosphere and inearth have some thin water film.Corrosion happened in salt water and fresh water can beaccepted as much more important in according to the corrosion existed in earth andatmosphere.Constructions used in sea are mostly steel.The principles emerged to prevent corrosive effectof sea can be given as painting and cathodic prevention.
