Abstract (EN)

Failure to conceive after 1 year despite regular sexual life with two intercourses a week in the absence of any method of contraception is defined as infertility. According to reports, infertility affects almost 10-15% of couples during their reproductive ages. The most prevalent cause of infertility in women is ovulation disorders, accounting for 40% of all cases. In cases where ovulation is achieved, the main purpose is single follicle ovulation. Related studies have shown that successive hormonal ovulation inductions result in unavoidable cell proliferation and cancer. The present study aims to investigate histological changes and damage that may result from treatment with clomiphene citrate and gonadotropins for ovulation induction using cell proliferation markers PCNA, LIF and c-FOS in the ovary tissue using immunohistochemical methods.Immunohistochemical analysis of potential damages in the ovary tissue that clomiphene citrate and gonodotropins may cause as a result of their use for ovulation induction demonstrated structural changes in oocyte levels and, particularly, multiple oocytes. All findings suggested that clomiphene citrate, which is structurally similar to estrogen, closes estrogen receptors by binding to them and this may result in a decreased number of receptors in parallel to the decreased sensitivity to estrogen. In conclusion, we are in the opinion that clomiphene citrate is effective on oocyte development rather than follicle development.
