Abstract (EN)

This research wasd with the aim of examining the relationship between gender stereotypes of six-year old children attending pre-school institutions and their mothers' social adaptation. 300 children selected by categorized random sampling participated in the study. The data related to children was collected through the use of Sex Stereotype Measurement(Şirvanlı,1992) and the data related to mothers through the use of Personal Information and Hacettepe Personality Inventory (Özgüven, 1995). When the data was analyzed, no meaningful difference was found in the sex stereotype scores of boys and girls. However, it was observed that the avarage of male stereotype scores of boys and girs was higher than that of female stereotype scores.lt was found that mothers' social adaptation affected the girls' female stereotype scores as well as their overall stereotype scores; mothers' social norm levels affected girls' total stereotype scores; and mothers' anti social relations affected boys' female stereotype scores.
