Comparison of plantar pressure distribution and balance parameters in children with and without specific learning disabilities

This study was conducted to compare the plantar pressure distribution and balance parameters of children with and without SLD. The study was divided into two groups as 20 children with SLD (SLD group) and 20 children without SLD (Control group). Children with normal FPI scores were included in the study. Sociodemographic information of the children participating in the study was obtained. PDS was used to assess balance. DIASU Digital Analysis System (Diasu Company, Rome, Italy) was used for plantar pressure distribution. It was observed that the PDS scores of the children in the SLD group were significantly lower than those in the control group (p<0.05). No significant difference was found between the two groups in the static plantar pressure analysis (p<0.05). In the dynamic plantar pressure distribution analysis, it was found that the right foot surface area of the children in the SLD group was greater than that of the children in the control group (p=0.001, r=-3.651). In the stabilometric analysis, it was found that the children in the control group had higher antero-posterior acceleration (p=0.013, r=- 2.617), ellipse surface area with eyes closed (p=0.043, r=-2.093), and sway length with eyes closed (p=0.037, r=-2.159) values than the children in the SLD group. There was no significant relationship between the PBS score of the children with SLD and the static and dynamic plantar pressure distribution and the stabilometric analysis (p>0.05). According to the results of our study, it was seen that children with SLD had poorer balance than children without SLD. It was seen that there was no significant relationship between plantar pressure distribution and balance in children with SLD.
