Abstract (EN)

Numerous studies on lenses characterized as bifocal have been conducted both in our country and in the world. However, a prospective study on multifocal lenses described as trifocal has not been reported in our country yet. In this study, the clinical results of the multifocal IOL (Alcon Acrysof IQ Panoptix TFNT00), which was applied during cataract surgery to the patients who consulted to Akdeniz University Faculty of Medicine Ophthalmology Outpatient Clinic and were diagnosed with cataracts between January 2019 and January 2020, were evaluated prospectively. Postoperative 1st and 6th month distance, near and intermediate visual acuity, postoperative 6th month intraocular pressure, posterior capsule opacification and if there was any photic phenomenon or not were recorded. A total of 164 eyes of 82 patients, 44 women (53,7%) and 38 men (46,3%), were included in the study. The mean age of the patients was found to be 52.37±7.62. In our study, the best corrected visual acuity in the distance was 0.05±0.06 logMAR in the postoperative 6th month, the best corrected visual acuity in the intermediate distance was 0.22±0.04 logMAR, and the best corrected visual acuity in the near distance was 0.21±0.05 logMAR. The preoperative mean intraocular pressure of the patients was measured as 15.7 mmHg (millimeter mercury), and the postoperative mean intraocular pressure was 16.1 mmHg in the 6th month, and there were no patients who required any medical or surgical antiglaucoma treatment. Post-operative 6th month biomicroscopic examination revealed posterior capsule opacification in 11,5% (n=19) of 164 eyes, yet it did not affect the patient's visual acuity as much to require treatment and was found to be clinically insignificant. In the postoperative 6th month, 14,6% (n=12) of the patients had photic phenomenon, 6,1% (n=5) of 82 patients had a need for distant glasses after 6 months of postoperative follow-up, and 9,7% (n=8) of the patients needed close glasses. The distance, near and intermediate vision acuities, neuroadaptation process and the need for far-near glasses that we detected in our study seem to be compatible with the literature. The satisfaction levels of our patients were at a good level and we did not have any patients who required intraocular lens replacement. New generation multifocal lenses reduce dependence on glasses as they give very positive results especially in intermediate distance and near visual acuity when used with suitable patients. Its use is very safe and effective in patients with indication
