Compare of the measurements of lungs? volumes, diaphragm domeheights and diaphragm lenghts on PA and Lateral chest radiographsbetween 7 to 10 years of age asthmatic and nonasthmatic childrenÖzlem KANBERThis research has been done between the dates of October 2003-May 2005, due touse of the means of Karadeniz Technical University, Medicine Faculty, Department ofAnatomy, Department of Children Health and Diseases and Department of Radiology.Mild and moderate persistent asthmatic children between the years of 7-10 ages(case group) who were lied down in the KTU Medicine Faculty-Farabi Hospital PediatricAsthma-Allergy Unit with the diagnosis of asthma and treated because of asthma andsame age group children (control group) came to this hospital due to a disease differentfrom asthma, have no any respiration symptom, face no chest trauma, no thoracic orparenchyma abnormalities have been watched at routine chest radiography included to theresearch. Totally 80 children were included to the research as 40 for per one group.In this study, data of lungs? volumes, diaphragm dome heights and diaphragmlengths collected due to measurements of routine PA ve lateral lungs? radiographies whichwere taken at regular checks of children in case group compared to data collected due tosame measurements of lungs? radiographies of children in control group.In this study, instead of helium dilution and body plethysmographic methods whichused for asthma diagnosis in clinics that are difficult and trouble giving methods andmeanwhile affect negatively the reliability of results especially for children who are notable to cooperate with technique, radiographic-planimetric method was used in studies tomeasure TLC and the effects of asthma on lungs? volume and this method determined thecase and proved its consistency due giving same merits with above methods, meanwhile iseaser and faster in use. And also, effects of diaphragm lengths and diaphragm domeheights on children determined in both groups by using PA and lateral lungs?radiographies. At the end of this study, it is thought that, those collected measurements cangive a preliminary idea in routine health services to determine pre-asthma diagnosis,instead of methods used in clinics for asthma diagnosis and make trouble especially forsmall children. Therefore it is thought that this method can be put forward for children dueits easier usage and implementation.
