Susceptibility level of Bemisia tabaci (Genn.) (Hemiptera: Aleyrodidae) populations from mediterrenean region to flupyradifurone, acetamiprid and sulfoxaflor

Abstract (EN)

The cotton whitefly Bemisia tabaci (Genn.) is an agriculturally important pest and its vector of many plant viruses that increases the pest's importance. Chemical control is mostly preferred in the management of B. tabaci. As a result of excessive use of insecticides, decreases in sensitivity to insecticides is observed in B. tabaci populations. Monitoring the pest's susceptibility levels to insecticides is an important factor in developing resistance management strategies. In the study, the lethal concentration (LC) values of B. tabaci populations collected from the Mediterranean Region Antalya, Mersin, Adana and Hatay provinces against the active substances flupyradifurone, acetamiprid and sulfoxaflor used in the control of B. tabaci were determined by using the leaf dipping method. The resistance multiples of the populations were determined by dividing the susceptible population SUD-S by the LC value. The LC50 values of B. tabaci populations determined against the active substances flupyradifurone, acetamiprid and sulfoxaflor were determined in the range of 1.16-6.92, in the range of 7.06-43.39 and in the range of 0.96-72.68 mg e.m./L-1, respectively. The resistance coefficients of the populations against flupyradifurone acetamiprid and sulfoxaflor active substances were determined in the range of 6.79-39.29, 38.16-234.53 and 3.83-291.9-fold, respectively. In B. tabaci populations, resistance levels were determined as low, moderate and high against flupyradifurone, high and very high against acetamiprid, and low, moderate, high and very high levels of resistance against sulfoxaflor. As a result of the study, it is thought that the use of B. tabaci should be suspended for a while in these regions, since the populations were observed to have a very high level of resistance to acetamiprid. Due to the loss of sensitivity at different levels to sulfoxaflor and flupyradifurone, it is thought that its frequent use should be avoided and it should be used in rotation with insecticides with different mechanisms of action in order to prevent the development of resistance. Although flupyradifurone has only recently been used, it is recommended to investigate cross-resistance and its mechanisms of action due to the loss of sensitivity observed in populations. It is thought that these data obtained in our study can be a reference in the future monitoring and management of insecticide resistance development.
