Investigation the possibilities of using satellite imagery in determining the plant-water relationship in cotton (G. hirsutum L.)

This study aims to determine the relationships between the characteristics obtained by sensors and measurement devices in cotton plant production areas and the satellite images examined, and the usability of satellite images in estimating these observation values and to evaluate the satellite images. It was made in order to give advice in terms of satellites, bands and indexes in estimating the observation values, to investigate the advantages of remote sensing systems and the possibilities of using them in agricultural lands. The study was carried out in 27 different cotton production areas grown in 8 different villages of the Artuklu and Kızıltepe Districts of Mardin Province. Band/indices obtained from 4 different satellite (Sentinel-1, Sentinel-2, Landsat-8 and PlanetScope) images with 8 different parameters (Soil Moisture (TN), Soil Temperature (TS), Ambient Humidity (ON), Ambient Temperature (OS), Normalized Difference Vegetation Index (NDVI), Leaf Area Index (LAI), Plant Proportional Water Content (BOSI), and Plant Canopy Temperature (BKS)) were examined. Obtained observation values were subjected to correlation and regression analyzes with satellite bands and indexes, regression and reverse regression equations were created for bands and indexes with high regression values, and recommendations were made for related features, satellites, bands and indexes. As a result, it has been determined that satellite data and derived bands and indexes can be used with confidence to predict the investigated features. In addition, based on these results; It has been concluded that satellite data is a very important data source for users in decision support systems, and observations that are difficult to see in the field or that require a lot of labor, time and energy can be obtained through satellite data.
