Abstract (EN)

Azo dyes; They are synthetic organic dyestuffs with azo group (-N=N-) in their molecular structure. Azo dyestuffs, which make up approximately 60%-70% of the dyestuffs in the world, decompose with the reducing enzymes in the human body and form carcinogenic amine compounds. (P.J. Wakelyn, in Cotton, 2007). Of the azo dyes, 4 are called definite carcinogens and 20 are called probable carcinogens. In this study, a fast and highly reproducible gas chromatography mass spectrometry (GC-MS) method was used for the determination of para chloro aniline, which is the most common azo dyestuff with this carcinogenic effect. The method is based on the principle that the azo bonds in textile dyes are decomposed with sodium dithionite at the appropriate pH and temperature, then drawn into the organic phase by liquid-liquid extraction with ter-methylbutyl ether and determined by GC-MS device. It is aimed to determine the presence and amount of para chloro aniline in textile dyes quickly, thus eliminating the risk of entering the dyeing processes.
