Abstract (EN)
Introduction:The parathyroid glands secrete parathyroid hormone (PTH), which plays an important role in the regulation of calcium and phosphorus metabolism. Increased secretion of PTH is called hyperparathyroidism (HPT), an endocrinological condition classified as primary, secondary or tertiary. In this study, we aimed to investigate the socio-epidemiological, laboratory and imaging characteristics of parathyroid patients admitted to our clinic, and to evaluate the therapeutic approach and results of parathyroid diseases in our clinic retrospectively. Materials and Methods: This study was conducted in 200 patients with parathyroid disease, aged between 18 and 93 years. Patients who were diagnosed as parathyroid disease and planned surgery as a treatment option were included in the study. Results: Totally 128 (64%) patients without additional thyroid disease underwent only unilateral surgical approach and local exploration and excision of parathyroid adenoma. From forty-two (22.5%) patients with additional thyroid disease 41 patients underwent bilateral total thyroidectomy and 4 patients underwent complementary thyroidectomy. The pathological diagnosis was reported as parathyroid adenoma in 182 (91%) patients. Pathological diagnosis and preoperative USG and scintigraphy findings were consistent in 129 patients (75.6%) and 110 patients (73.3%), respectively. Preoperative PTH values were significantly higher than intraoperative, 1. day and 1. month PTH values (p <0.001). The decrease in preoperative serum calcium levels at the end of the first day and at the end of the first month was found to be statistically significant (p <0.001). It was observed that the increase in serum P values in the postoperative period was statistically significant (p <0.05). Postoperative complications were observed in 9 (4.5%) patients. Conclusion: As it can be seen from the results of the study, the surgical treatment of parathyroid disorders should be preferred in accordance with the guidelines.
