Abstract (EN)

Parkinson's disease (PD) is the second most common neurodegenerative disease. Although genetic and environmental factors are thought to be effective in the epidemiology of PD, the definitive treatment of the disease has unfortunately not been found. The aim of this study is to examine the changes in malondialdehyde (MDA), ischemic modified albumin (IMA), total oxidant level (TOS), total antioxidant level (TAS) markers and the effect of oxidative stress on PD. In our study, 30 people, 21 females, 9 males, aged between 45-90, constituted the Parkinson's disease group, 12 females and 7 males, 19 newly diagnosed Parkinson's group, and 25 individuals, 12 females and 13 males, constituted our control group. Our study was carried out with the participation of a total of 74 people, including 30 with Parkinson's disease, 19 with newly diagnosed Parkinson's disease and 25 in the control group. Patients with PD were selected among the patients who applied to the Balıkesir University Neurology Department. This study was approved by the hospital ethics committee and writtenin formed consent was obtained. Serum was separated from the blood samples taken. Then, the analyzes were performed with the Enzyme-Linked ImmunoSorbent Assay (ELISA) method with IMA and MDA SunRed brand kits. Commercial kits produced by Rel Assay Diagnostics (Turkey) were used for TAS and TOS measurements, and measurements were made according to the method recommended by the company. MDA levels were significantly different between Parkinson's and newly diagnosed Parkinson's groups (p:0.014). MDA values are higher in newly diagnosed Parkinson's patients than in Parkinson's patients with previous diagnosis indicates that it may be an indication that oxidant and antioxidant balance occur due to deterioration in favor of oxidant. However, further research is needed to understand the role of TAS, TOS and IMA parameters in PD. Keywords:IMA, MDA, Parkinson, TAS, TOS
