Examination of market shopkeepers' voice hygiene awareness levels and voice fatigue

Aim: The aim of this study is to examine the awareness levels of voice hygiene and voice fatigue of individuals working as market tradesmen in Diyarbakır province in terms of demographic information. Material and Method: Quantitative research method was used in the study and a survey was conducted with the participation of 100 market traders. Data were collected through Demographic Information Form, Voice Fatigue Scale and Voice Hygiene Awareness Level Information Form. Data collected through the survey application for market traders in Diyarbakır province were analyzed with SPSS (Statistical Package for Social Sciences) package program. Results: The findings of the study show that some demographic variables affect voice hygiene and voice fatigue. The duration of active voice use, chronic disease status and age variables have significant effects. However, no effect was detected for the variables of gender, education level, working hours, medical illness and professional training status related to voice. Conclusion: The results of the study show that demographic variables affect voice hygiene and voice fatigue of market tradesmen. The results obtained show that the voice fatigue level of market tradesmen who have knowledge about voice hygiene/vocal hygiene is higher than those who do not have knowledge about voice hygiene/vocal hygiene. In light of the results obtained, it is recommended that market tradesmen receive training on voice use. In this way, it will be possible to increase their awareness of voice hygiene and voice fatigue.
