Abstract (EN)

ABSTRACT THE EFFECT OF FAMILY CENTERED CARE APPROACH ON PARENT ANXIETY IN PEDIATRIC UNITS This research; The study was carried out in a descriptive and relationship-seeking design type in order to determine the effect of family-centered care approach applied in pediatric wards on parental anxiety. The data were collected at "Mehmet Akif Ersoy Thoracic and Cardiovascular Surgery Training and Research Hospital" in Istanbul between January and May 2023. The sample consists of 70 parents with children aged 3-6 years whose children are hospitalized for at least 3 days. more and who agreed to participate in the study. Information Form, Family Centered Care (AMB) Scale and Parent State Anxiety Inventory were used in the research. It was determined that the majority of the parents participating in the research were women, their education level was high school or higher, about half of them were working, their economic situation was bad according to the statements of the families, and the number of children was mostly 2, the family mostly resides in Istanbul, it was a nuclear family and most of the children were girls. In the study, it was determined that the total mean score of the parents on the Family Centered Care Scale was 46.54 ± 5.74 (Min: 14; Max: 70), and the mean score on the State Anxiety Scale was 43.06 ± 4.30. (Min: 20; Max: 80) points were found. It was determined that the question "nurses make me feel that I have an important place in the care of my child" among the scale items had the highest percentage. Looking at the results of the correlation test; It was found that there was no statistically significant relationship between the parents' total scores on the Family Centered Care Scale, Significance and Consistency sections, and state Anxiety levels (p>.05). As a result, it is seen that both the total score and the significance and consistency section scores and matching percentages of the AMB scale mean scores are not at the desired level and are at a moderate level. Accordingly, it is recommended to develop policies and procedures in hospitals related to family-centered care practices and to train health professionals on AMB practices.
