Abstract (EN)
Our country is the third biggest perlite producing country on the world who has rich perlite sources. In this thesis, perlite, which is a volcanic glass, is used. Perlite includes oxides in its chemical properties and these oxides can be use when produce ceramic glazes. It?s aimed to produce artistic ceramic glazes by taking advantage of its chemical and physical characteristics which are to be grinded easily when it is expanded and the oxides in its chemical structure which is used for the production of ceramic glaze. In this thesis, the utility of ?Etiper Süper İnce? branded perlite, produced by Etibank, in making artistic glazes on ceramic is analyzed.Aiming that, general properties of perlite is expressed, and the physical characteristics and oxides found in its chemical structure are examined in the first chapter. In this work, white earthenware, red clay, fire clay bodies had been fired at 980 ?C were used. The feature of producing glazes of perlit is observed by applying the bodies at issue with mixtures which was made with perlites and flaxes, from 10% to 90% and fired at 1000 ?C.As a result of observations, from the raw materials chosen to manufacture different kinds of artistic ceramic glaze; ?Perlite-Lithium Carbonate-Orthoclase?, ?Perlite-Ulecsite-Ortoclas? and ?Perlite-Ulecsite-Red Lead? ?triple mixtures? are formed with ?the Triangular Diagram Method?. These mixtures are colored with additions of %2 CuO in 1000 ?C double and triple mixtures ripened in consequence of works tested in 1000 ?C. As the results of those processes crackle, fluid, opaque, cravvling and mate artistic glazes have been consisted. And applying the selected colored glazes on the forms, the work is concluded.
