Abstract (EN)

Most metals exist in nature as stable ores of oxides, carbonates or sulfides. Refining them, to make them useful, requires energy. Corrosion is simply nature's way of reversing an unnatural process back to a lower energy state. Preventing corrosion is vital in every step in the production of oil. Salinity, pH, temperature and corrosive gas concentration of the medium that the metal is in contact with, determines the type and the rate of the corrosion. In this study, corrosion behavior of Ç1040 type low carbon steel material at different electrolyte mediums with alternating levels of Chloride ion, dissolved CO2, H2S and O2 gases, pH and temperature, were investigated with the help of electrochemical measurement techniques such as Tafel Extrapolation, Lineer Polarization Resistance and Cyclic Polarization. According to the results, corrosion activity of the corrosive gases are listed as O2 > CO2 > H2S, chloride ions increases the formation of pitting corrosion, temperature increase contributes to the corrosion rate, were determined. Also, acceleration of corrosion in the range of pH 0-5 and 10-14 and minimum level of corrosion in the neutral zone due to passivation were detected.
