Abstract (EN)
In the master's thesis titled Coastal Geomorphology and Coastal Erosion of the Ancient City of Phaselis and its Environment, a detailed study was made about the coast, coastal change, and the causes of coastal change. As a result of the literature studies, it was decided that the Digital Shoreline Analysis System (DSAS) is the most appropriate method that can be used to determine the coastal change of the Ancient City of Phaselis and its surroundings. Used as an extension of the ArcGIS program, DSAS calculates the changes between coastlines of previous years in the most accurate way. Since the study area covers a small area, aerial photographs of 1957, 1981, 1992, 2009 and 2019, which were obtained from the General Directorate of Maps (HGM), were used instead of Landsat satellite images. Then, Net Shore Movement (NSM), End Point Ratio (EPR) and Shoreline Change Envelope (SCE) statistical analyzes, which are the most preferred among the DSAS analysis method, were used. Analyzes were made by dividing the study area into four sections as Bostanlık Bay, Kent Harbour, Kuzey Port and Cennet Bay. Bostanlık Bay has been analyzed by dividing into two parts as A and B. As a result of the analysis, it was understood that while accumulation occurred in certain areas of the Ancient City of Phaselis and its surroundings, erosion occurred in certain areas. The reason for the accumulation event to occur is anthropogenic activities as well as natural processes. The best example of this situation was seen on the shores of Cennet Bay.
