ABSTRACT PhD THESIS DETERMINATION OF THE EFFECT OF HEATING ON CROP GROWING AND HEATING ECONOMY IN PLASTIC GREENHOUSES ZEYNEP ZAİMOGLU (KOCABAŞ) DEPARTMANT OF AGRICULTURAL STRUCTURES AND IRRIGATION INSTITUTE OF NATURAL AND APPLIED SCIENCES UNIVERSTY OF ÇUKUROVA Supervisor : Prof. Dr. Nafi BAYTORUN Years: 1999, Pages: 136 Jury : Prof. Dr. Bahri ÇEVİK : Prof. Dr. Aydın ÖNEŞ Heating the greenhouses provides considerable amount of increase in yield as far as quality and quantity are concern. In Turkey, prices of crops could not tolerate the heating expenses. That is why the growers have being preferred unheated greenhouses than heated ones. In this research study, in order to determine the effect of the heating onto yield and heating economy, tomato crop was grown in two plastic cowered greenhouses which where similar to each other and identical to Mediterranean Coastal Band. One of these greenhouses was heated minimum 5°C, while the other was 13°C. In this greenhouses tomato crop seeded in two different dates. "Simulserre La Tomate" model which developed by INRA in France. By this comparison, the difference was found %14,7. After determining the adaptability of the model and loading the climatical data of Çukurova Region, it was found by using the model that the effects of the heating and C02 fertilization on the yield were positive, while the effect of double IIIfold plastic covering material was negative. After the calculations, it was determined that, maximum yield was obtained from 16/24°C night/day time temperatures and 1000 ppm. CO2 fertilization application condition. But, if the market prize changes during the year where taken into consideration, in the single fold plastic covered greenhouse, without CO2 fertilization and night/day time inside temperature condition was determined as the most profitable condition. Furthermore, according to the results obtained from the model extention of the production period effected the yield positively. Key Words: Greenhouse, Tomato, Simulsere La Tomate. rv
