Abstract (EN)
The aim of this study is to compare Plato and Aristotle?s ethics, and laybare the differences and similarities between them. To this end, in theintroductory part of the work, prior to the investigation of Plato and Aristotle?sunderstanding of ethics, the relationship between ethics and morality, andsubsequently, pre-Platon and pre-Aristotle various approaches in the field ofethics are included. In the first chapter of the study, Plato?s understanding of ethics isinvestigated in relevance to epistemology. Eudaemonistic ethics of Plato isstudied with an emphasis on the realization of the major issues, the highestgood, virtue, and the good, in social life.In the second chapter of the study, Aristotle?s understanding of ethicsis investigated under the headings, happiness and virtue, in relevance toepistemology. Aristotle?s understanding of ethics, like Plato?s, displays aneudaemonistic structure. The third chapter makes a comparison between the ethicsunderstandings of Plato and Aristotle, and includes differences andsimilarities in this issue. As a result, Plato and Aristotle are rationalistic philosophers who hadadopted reasoning as their fundamental principle. Ethics understanding ofboth philosophers is characterized by eudaemonism. Their understanding ofethics overlaps. Aristotle had been influenced by, improved and extended theideas of his teacher Plato on ethics. Differences between Plato and Aristotleare based on Aristotle?s rejection of Plato?s theory of ideas, and on histhought emphasizing that ideas do not exist in a different world, but the worldwe live in. The reflection of this thought in the world of ethics is what makesAristotle take the realm of feelings into consideration in addition to thinking.
