Özet (EN)
The aim of this study was to evaluate the levels of total oxidant capacity (TOC), total antioxidant capacity (TAC), paraoxonase-1 (PON1), arylesterase (ARE), Caveolin-1 (Cav-1), triglyceride (TG) and lactate dehydrogenase (LDH) in patients with pleural effusions (PE) in different clinical diagnoses and to determine whether these levels different in malignant benign differentiation. Pleural fluid specimens obtained by thoracentesis or thoracic drainage with histopathological examinations were icluded in the study from patients over 18 years of age followed by PE. Patient files were scanned and information such as age, gender and the method of obtaining PE were retrospectively obtained. A total of 71 patients 49 (69 %) male, 22 (31%) female were included in this study. The cytologic findings of the patients were evaluated as benign in 46 patients (64.8 %) and malignant in 25 patients (35.2 %). Of the patients with benign PE, 35 (76,1 %) were males and 11 (23,9 %) were females, 14 (56 %) of malign PE patients were males and 11 (44 %) were females. The mean age of the patients was 56.65 ± 23.23 and 53.68 ± 14.66 in patients with benign and malignant PE, respectively. There was no significant relationship between sex and cytological diagnosis of patients (p= 0.08). When patients are grouped according to cytology, the mean age of malignant and benign patients is not different (p= 0.564). While TOC, TAC, PON1, ARE, Cav-1 and LDH levels were not found statistically significant in patients with benign and malignant disease (p= 0.776, p= 0.572, p= 0.843, p= 0.124, p= 0.866, p= 0.330), TG levels were statistically significant (p= 0.026). Triglyceride levels in the malignant group were significantly higher than in the benign group.
