Abstract (EN)

syndrome (PCOS) is a chronic metabolic disease characterized by hyperandrogenism, oligo-anovulation and/or polycystic ovaries. Although insulin resistance (IR) has been accused as one of the causes of PCOS, its etiopathogenesis has not been fully elucidated today. Asprosin and subfatin are hormones thought to be associated with IR secreted from adipose tissue. In our study, we compared asprosin and subfatin levels in PCOS patients with healthy control group and hormonal, metabolic and inflammation parameters. Our study is prospective and included 35 PCOS patients and 32 healthy women who came to the Endocrinology Outpatient Clinic of Gaziantep University Hospital. Asprosin was found to be higher in the PCOS group compared to the control group (p=0.034). Also asprosin; significant positive correlation was found with weight, body mass index, waist circumference, insulin, homeostasis model assesment (HOMA-IR) index, triglyceride, lymphocyte, red cell distribution volume (RDW), sedimentation, and CRP. Subfatin was found to be significantly negatively correlated with asprosin, HDL and thyroid stimulating hormone (TSH). Although subfatin was higher in the PCOS group, no statistically significant difference was found (p=0.130). In addition, subfatin was found to be unrelated to HOMA-IR (p=0.254). In conclusion, subfatin was found to be unrelated to PCOS and IR, while asprosin was found to be associated with IR and inflammation, and may be involved in the etiopathogenesis of PCOS. Asprosin may be a therapeutic target for the treatment of PCOS in the future.
