Porcelain figurine as a political object

In this master's thesis titled " Porcelain figurine as a political object", the relationship between art and politics in the historical process was investigated through the use of porcelain figurines, which are mass production objects. Throughout history, the concepts of art and politics have foster and guided each other. In this study, it has been tried to reach the answers to the questions about how they give direction to each other, for what purposes, politics over art and art over politics. The works that emerged as a result of art and politics in the field of plastic arts were examined, and then what kind of works emerged by using propaganda and protest as a tool in the art of ceramics was discussed. In the art of ceramics, the process of transforming the porcelain figurine, which is seen only as an ornament, into works of art by artists, is also used for different purposes. Finally, original works and personal interpretations are given by using porcelain in ceramic art. This study consists of three parts. In the first part, art and politics in the historical process; It has been examined how the works created in the fields of plastic arts are affected by political events, and how the artist expresses the socio-political events in this formation process. Art movements that emerged as a reaction to political events, feminism and performance art were defined and interpretations were made on the performances and works of artists who were affected by social and political events such as war, dictatorship and gender discrimination. Then, the concepts of propaganda and protest in ceramic art were investigated. In the second part, porcelain figurines, which are the basis of the study, are evaluated with different aspects. The porcelain figurine, which is seen as a kitsch, vulgar, ordinary object, is actually what it is and how it is used. Starting with the definition of the porcelain figurine, the porcelain factories that were established, produced, closed and survived from the first porcelain factory to the present are mentioned. What kind of productions the modelers from these factories produced were examined through porcelain figurines. Today, this small but effective object; In addition to its decorative use, as a contemporary art object, the artist uses various methods and techniques; especially its use as a propaganda and protest tool is conveyed through porcelain figurines. Finally, in the third part, personal applications were made by considering the subject of women and by making use of the research and experiences on the subject, based on the values and judgments of the society in which they live.
