Retrospective examination of symptoms in patients using and not using bevacizumab with port catheter

Objective: In this study, it was aimed to retrospectively investigate the effect of patients bevacizumab using and not using in intravenous treatment on catheter residence time and complications with port catheter. Method: The sample of the study consisted of 600 patients who had a port catheter in Akdeniz University Hospital between January 2014 and May 2018. The research data were collected December 2020 using electronic health record system and the patient ınformation form. Results: There was no significant difference in the rate of complications between patients using and not using bevacizumab in their treatment with port catheter. Catheter removal rate was significantly higher in the without bevacizumab group. The reason for catheter removal in without bevacizumab group was termination of treatment, infection respectively; in the chemotherapy (KT) and Bevacizumab groups infection, thrombosis were found. It was observed that gender, age and diagnosis of the disease did not have a significant effect on the development of complications in patients who received chemotherapy and bevacizumab while the time of catheter insertion and the duration of catheter follow-up had a significant effect. It was found that more complications were seen in patients who were catheter inserted simultaneously with KT and bevacizumab treatment than patients who were placed before. Conclusion: In patients who are planned to be treated with intravenous chemotherapy and bevacizumab, it is recommended to plan port catheter placement before and add Bevacizumab to the treatment after wound healing. However, it was observed that there was no problem in terms of catheter duration and port catheter complications in the next period in patients who received Bevacizumab in their treatment.
