Abstract (EN)
Preeclampsia is one of the most important complications in obstetrics. It affects 2-7% of pregnancies. It is defined as hypertension and proteinuria that occur after the 20th week of pregnancy, but the current situation is more than hypertension and proteinuria, it is a multisystemic and complex syndrome that concerns the whole body. Every year, approximately 50, 000 mothers and900, 000 babies die due to preeclampsia and its complications, which means approximately 12% of all maternal deaths. The onset and clinical course of the disease is unpredictable. Therefore, powerful tools are needed in the diagnosis and treatment of the disease. Prohibitins (PHB) have been reported to have many functions that can be identified by their cellular localization and cell types. Functions attributed to prohibitins include their involvement in nuclear transcription, the formation of a plasma membrane lipid skeleton protein, a mitochondrial morphogenesis protein within the mitochondria, and its apoptosis regulator. In addition, induced oxidative stress has been associated with PHB expression. Down-regulation of PHB in endothelial cells resulted in increased production of mitochondrial reactive oxygen species (ROS) and cellular aging. The sequence of activity of the prohibit suggests that these proteins may be attractive therapeutic targets for various disease states, including inflammation, obesity and cancer, but a better understanding of their cell-related functions seems mandatory. Considering the pathophysiology of preeclampsia and the effects of prohibitin at the cellular level, it has been found remarkable in clarifying the pathophysiology of pre-eclampsia. In our study, it was found that prohibitin levels significantly increased in pregnant women complicated with severe preeclampsia and preeclampsia compared to healthy pregnant women (p<0, 001). This study demonstrates that the prohibit may play a role in the physiopathology of preeclampsia. In the light of these data, the use of prohibitin in the diagnosis and treatment of preeclampsia can be considered. Keywords: prohibitin, preeclampsia, pregnant, oxidative stress, apotosis.
