Quality of life of mothers with premature infants and factors affecting quality of life

This study was carried out as a relationship-seeking study to determine the quality of life and factors affecting quality of life of mothers with premature babies. The study was conducted between July 2018 and September 2019 with the mother of 90 premature infants who were treated in a neonatal intensive care unit in a Vakıf University hospital in Istanbul. The data of the study were collected by using Mother and Baby Information Form with Premature Infants ',' WHOQOL-BREF Scale ',' Edinburgh Postnatal Depression Scale 'and' Multidimensional Perceived Social Support Scale '. Descriptive statistics such as frequency, percentage, mean and standard deviation were evaluated using SPSS program, Student's test, One Way Anova test and regression analysis. 54.4% of the mothers are aged 31 and over and 67.8% of the fathers are between 31 and over. 96.7% of the mothers were married and 50% had a marriage period of 1-5 years. 36.7% of the mothers are high school graduates and 16.7% are university graduates. 60% of mothers are not employed and 62.2% are the same as family income. The mean score of WHOQOL-BREF (TR) overall quality of life of the mothers was 73.87 ± 9.28, and the Edinburgh Postnatal Depression Scale score was 10.52 ± 4.80, and the mean score of the Multidimensional Perceived Social Support Scale was 62.14 ± 14. 66 found. In the study, postpartum depression and perceived social support were found to be a significant predictor of overall quality of life. While the level of postpartum depression decreases the general quality of life, perceived social support increases the general quality of life. While perceived social support from the family increases the general quality of life level, perceived social support from friends and private people does not affect the overall quality of life. In conclusion, it was determined that postpartum depression level and perceived social support affect quality of life.
