The effect of problem solving skills and smart phone addiction symptoms on parent child communication

The aim of this study is to determine the effect of problem solving skills and symptoms of smartphone addiction on communication between child and parent. For this purpose, parents living in Esenyurt district of Istanbul province were included in the study. A total of 300 parents were surveyed by random sampling method. In the research, correlational survey model, which is one of the general survey models, was used. Three different scales were used in the study. These scales are Smart Phone Addiction Scale - Short Form, Problem Solving Skills Perception Scale and Parent Communication with Child. The data collected in the study were processed into SPSS 25.0 package program and analyzed. In this context, frequency analysis was performed to look at the distribution of demographic characteristics of the participants. Then, the reliability analysis was performed to test the reliability of the scales and data. After these analyzes, Independent t-Test, Anova Test and Correlation Analysis were performed to measure the relationship between demographic values and data of scale. Finally, Regression Analysis was performed to test the regression values between the scales. As a result of the research, it was determined that the communication skills and problem solving skills of some parents were more developed. It was determined that the smart phone usage time of the parents may cause negativeness in their problem solving skills and communication with their children. Participation in the studies was generally provided by mothers. In addition, it was determined that those who received support for themselves expressed themselves more easily. Individuals can express and analyze themselves as a result of the support they receive. As a result of the analyzes conducted in this study, it is seen that the problem solving skills of the parents increase as the number of children increases. When individuals use touch phones instead of smart phones, they listen to the other person better and can be more successful in problem solving.
