Özet (EN)

In the study, ethanolic and aqueous propolis extracts was prepared which xere collected from Duzce. After the extracts' phenolic and flavonoid matters were determined, they were used as preservative instead of artifical paraben base preservatises as an antimicrobial preservative in pharmaceutic oral suspension. Phenolic and flavonoids concentrations were determined with UV spectrophotometer. Phenolic and flavonoids content of the ethanolic extract were grater than the aqueous extract. The extracts were used as 0.5, 1, 2 and 4 times grater than artifical preservative content of the markets products which have artifical preservatives as parabens. Approved formulations were produced in C grade production area. A pharmaceutic oral suspension was choosen as control group. Additionally, an artifical preservatives free suspension was formulated and produced. The products were kept under stress conditions where have 40 °C temperature and 75% relative humidity in incubator and analysed as microbiologically with 1 week, 2 week, 1 month and 2 months periods. The microbiolagical analyses were determined according to European Pharmacopeia (EP). According to microbiolagical analyses, ethanolic extract had same effect wtih referance product until the second month whic were the last period of the microbiological analysis. The products which had propolis 2 and 4 times greater than artificial preservatives had no microbiological growth at the end of the 2 months preiod. The aqueous extract had microbiological growth in all of the periods. According to the study, ethanolic propolis extract can be evaluated as a preservative in oral suspensions.
