Investigation of virulence factors in Pseudomonas aeruginosa isolates by phenotypic and genotypic methods

Abstract (EN)
Pseudomonas aeruginosa (P. aeruginosa) aerob have been Gram-negative bacilli that can produce at 42° C without spores, motile, straight or slightly curved. P. aeruginosa has high mortality and morbidity, which has been common with its increasing incidence in recent years, the variety of virulence factors that have been the cause of difficult-to-treat infections and the constantly rising antibiotic resistance rates. Many extracellular factors that are virulence factors that has played a role in pseudomonasaeruginosapathogenesis. These virulence factors have been important in understanding the basic mechanisms in the pathogenesis and studies investigating how each affects treatment or can be used as a therapeutic agent.In this study our aim has been to investigate the resistance status of P. aeruginosa strains and virulence factors. Identified as P.aeruginosa in the Microbiology Laboratory of Tokat Gaziosmanpaşa University Medical Faculty Hospital and isolated from patient samples has been included in this study. (n:80) According to the samples which have been sent to clinics considering its distribution the isolates have been mostly from Chest Diseases Service (13%), Internal Medicine Service (12%) and Cardiology Intensive Care (10%) and at least Anesthesia Intensive Care (1%), Surgical Oncology (1%) and it has been determined that it has been produced from samples (1%) from the urology service. P. aeruginosa isolates have been determined to be most resistant to piperacillin-tazobactam (65%) and least to tobramycin (6%) and amikacin (6%). Any statistically significant relationship has not been determined between the samples from which P. aeruginosa isolates were produced and the resistance of the isolates against antibiotics. (p≥0,05). It has been determined that 81.3% of P. aeruginosaisolates produced Tox A, 30% of Exo S, 32.5% of PLC, 30% of Exo S, 42.5% Las B. It has been determined that 70.4% of the isolates were mobile, 33.9% produced pyocyanin, 41.3% of pyoverdin, 1.8% of pyoverdin but 8.9% of have not had pigmentation feature. Moreover, there has not been detected statistically significant difference between antibiotic resistance and the presence of virulence factors (p>0.005). P.aeruginosa virulanns have been highly non-fermenting bacteria that cause community-acquired infections and have been a notable pathogen, especially in patients with weak immune systems, with increased antibiotic resistance and many hospital-acquired infections. We think that examining the antibiotic resistance status and the frequency of virulence factors that have the potential to change the course of the infection will be useful in terms of providing the basis for possible different therapeutic applications that can target these mechanisms.
