Abstract (EN)

Psychological contact is a concept which refers to non-physical bonds between the employee and the work place such that said bonds are configured by mutual expectations, perceptions and beliefs. With this concept which aims to embody new commitment forms, it is believed that solution can be created for sectors experiencing problems related with employment. This study was conducted on the sample comprising of private radios, televisions and newspaper enterprises operating on country-wide scale (headquarters located in Istanbul, Ankara and İzmir) in Turkey and their employees between April and September 2011. Aim of this study is to determine problems which reduce commitment in the media sector of Turkey and to offer advices for creating positive psychological contracts. Examining the subject in two dimensions, including perspectives of employee and the enterprise, this dissertation has mixed study method. In quantitative part, surveys applied to sector employees were analyzed with structural equation method using LISREL software pack. However, in qualitative part, interviews with managers of enterprises were examined with descriptive analyses using N-Vivo software pack. As a result of the study, considering the factors believed to have influence on psychological contracts, it was found that the extent of fulfilling expectations of employees was low and moderate. It was observed that despite all negative experiences, professional commitment in the media sector attenuated the employee?s intent to withdraw. In the part of enterprises, it was determined that psychological contracts are not generally cancelled by employees and they are dismissed due to causes such as crisis and cost-reduction policies although employees of the sector work devotedly.
