The association between anti-ccp antibody levels and clinical activity and quality of life in patient with psoriatic arthritis

IntroductionPsoriatic arthritis is a type of inflammatory joint disease in which axial or peripheral arthritis is associated with psoriasis. Psoriatic arthritis shares features of pondyloarthropathies and rheumatoid arthritis. Psoriatic arthritis (PsA) have a negative impact on patients? qualityof life (QOL).The aim of this study was therefore to investigate the titers of anti-CCP antibodies in PsA and assess their clinical and quality of life associations.Material and methodFourty two patients with PsA and thirty eight healthy control subjects are included in the study. Demographicdata and clinical characteristics including age, sex, disase duration, erythrocyte sedimentation rate (ESR), C-reactiveprotein (CRP), anti-CCP antibodies, RF, peripheral pain assessed by visual analogscale (VAS) . Nottingham Health Profile (NHP), sf-36 was used to evaluate QOL in both groups.ResultThe demographic data of the subjects were similar between the groups. The scores of NHP social isolation, emotional reaction and pain subscales were significantly higher in PsA patients than in control subjects. The scores of physical domains of NHP (such as energy, sleep, physical mobility) were statistically higher in PsA patients (p<0.05)Thirteen ( 33.3 % ) patients with PsA were positive for anti-CCP antibodies. ( compared with 0% of controls ).There was no statistically significant correlation between the NHP or the SF-36 scores with ESR, or CRP levels in the PsA group.ConclusionIn conclusion Anti-CCP antibodies may be present in patients with psoriatic arthritis. Although no corelation was found between titers of anti-CCP antibodies and quality of life.
