Investigation of the effects of pulsed magnetic field application on glucose metabolism in rat

Aim: The aim of this study was to investigate the effects of pulsed magnetic field on glucose metabolism in rats. Materials and Methods: In our study, 23 Wistar Albino rats were used. The rats were divided into 3 groups as control group (n=7), PEMF group (n=8) and PEMF+Cvit. group (n=8). Before starting the experiment, weight measurements of the rats were made. PEMF and PEMF+Cvit. groups were exposed to pulsed magnetic field between 08.00 and 12.00 hours for 4 weeks. The control group was exposed to the same environmental conditions without magnetic field. Tap water was given to the control and PEMF groups by gavage before the magnetic field was applied. Vitamin C was given to the PEMF+Cvit. group by gavage. At the end of the four-week experimental period, body weights, serum, gastric tissue, liver tissue and kidney tissue insulin, glucagon, GLP-1, SIRT1, TAC and TOC levels were determined. Brain, pancreas and liver tissues were examined for pathologic examination. Rsult: It was observed that pulsed magnetic field application did not cause any pathological damage on the brain, pancreas and liver tissues that synthesize and coordinate hormones affecting the regulation of glucose metabolism. In addition, it was determined that there was an increase in insulin, GLP-1, SIRT1 and TAC values in the stomach tissue and this had positive effects on gastric motility, which affects the blood glucose level after feeding. At the same time, it was observed that there was an increase in insulin levels in kidney tissue and these increases were statistically significant. There was no statistically significant difference in serum and liver tissue values. Conclusion: Pulsed magnetic field application had a positive effect on glucose metabolism.
