Abstract (EN)
In this research, ginned cotton seed which is agricultural waste and easily available in Turkey was used in biobed instead of peat which is expensive. The aim of this study was to determine of efficiency of ginned cotton seed on adsorption and degradation of pesticide in biobed. In trials, A (50% ginned cotton seed+50% farm-soil), B (25% ginned cotton seed+25% farm-soil+50% straw), and C (25% peat+25%farm-soil+50% straw) biomixes were used. Pesticide, fenthion a.i. (active ingredient), was analyzed by gas chromatograph equipped with nitrogen-phosphorus detector (GC-NPD). Solid phase extraction method was used in analysis. The highest pesticide residue was determined in C biomix, 4931.7475 ppb, and the lowest pesticide residue was observed in A biomix, 3394.4658 ppb. In statistical analysis, there is no significantly difference between biomixes. Degradation rate in biomix A was higher approximately two times than B and C biomix. In trial day, pesticide residues were statistical difference from other days. Yet, in same day, there is no statistical difference between biomixes.Consequently, in this study, there is no statistical difference between pesticides residues in biomixes. It was concluded that ginned cotton seed can be used instead of peat in biobed which is used on reducing of pesticide contaminated waters during filling, mixing, and cleaning of sprayers, in Turkey. Moreover, straw should be used in biobed on degradation of pesticide.
