Özet (EN)

In this thesis work, it is aimed to use recycled PET (r-PET) yarns obtained from waste PET (Polyethylene terephthalate) bottles in chenille yarn and upholstery fabric structure and to optimize the unit production cost of woven fabrics. In this thesis scope, r-PET and standard polyester yarns are used in staple and filament forms as binder and/or pile yarns in the structure of chenille yarns and 32 chenille yarns are produced in two different pile lenghts. Then, these chenille yarns were used as weft yarn to produce chenille upholstery fabrics. For the determination of the physical and performance properties of the woven fabrics, tests were performed in accordance with the standards and the results were evaluated statistically. As a result, despite some negative properties compared to standard PES yarns, r-PET yarns were found to provide sufficient performance properties when used in the chenille yarn structure The use of recycled yarns in chenille yarn structures, which are widely used in the upholstery industry, will enable more sustainable production in the industry with lower raw material costs. Another aim of the study was to establish a mathematical model in order to estimate the production cost and some physical and performance properties of chenille upholstery fabrics before production. In this context, an equation was obtained that gives the unit cost of the raw chenille upholstery fabric to be used as an objective function of purpose in the model. Regression equations for performance properties were used as constraints in the model. Lingo 18.0 software was used to solve the model. In the solution of the model, while the cost was minimized within the constraints, the optimum values of certain physical and performance properties of the fabrics were obtained.
