Abstract (EN)
The primary aim of this thesis is to analyse the films directed by Reha Erdem who made an impression with his first films in both national and international film festivals, also has distinguished with his independent and unique cinematographic style of Turkish cinema in the recent years, in the perspectives of space, time and memory. In the frame of this aim, while it is being mentioned how cinema shapes and transforms its own time and space, it also examines the interrelation amongst cinema, time and space in consideration of different intellection on the field. After an evaluation of the periods of Turkish cinema over these two concepts, an analysis of Reha Erdem's films' atmosphere is carried out in the perspective of time and space. The cinematic device, affected by the whole technological and socio-cultural developments of the history, proves itself as an art throughout the years by experiencing, questioning, transforming, redefining, improving its own characteristics. It is an ongoing process. The narrative and representative structures have developed new styles by affecting and being affected by the historical perspective of the time and space. While shaping this entire process, it brings on own narrative structure on the basis of its custom elements (editing, script, sound, music, actor, etc.). Pondering upon the forms of space -place, motion, existence/body- and time of the ambiance created by Reha Erdem will reveal the director's cinematographic aspect. The multi-layered narrative structure of the director will be analysed by examining the ambiances and themes of the films.
