A comparison of educational leadership behavior of private primary school headmasters and public school headmasters (Çankaya, Ankara sample)

This research aims to compare the educational leadership behavior of the headmasters at private schools and the headmasters at public primary schools. The research aimed to determine at what degree the headmasters of private primary schools and headmasters of state primary schools have fulfilled their educational leadership mission and find out if there is a difference between these two groups while performing their jobs.The research has been completed on the basis of a questionnaire model. The research content was formed according to the primary schools in Çankaya, Ankara. All the private primary schools and twenty-eight public primary schools in the area were chosen randomly to form the sample. PIRMS, the short name for a device used to collect data, and the new questionnaire developed by Gümüşeli (1996), was employed by the researcher.While percentage was used to determine the distribution of the test subjects in terms of organizational and individual differences; arithmetic average, standard deviation, t test techniques were used for the analysis of other findings. After these processes, the findings were categorized in the form of tables and conclusions were drawn up with the required explanations and comments.1-Teachers stated that school principals are perfoming all the tasks like developing schools purposes, expleining schools purposes, auditing and evaluating the education, coordinate education program , following student success, preserving education time,showing their existense, rewarding the teachers, providing the teachers Professional improvement, improving academical standarts and putting them into practice, and encourage students to learn, most of the time.2-Public school teachers stated that school principals are performing all at these 11 tasks most of the time, private school teachers stated that school principals are performing these tasks all the time. According to the findings based on teacher opinion, public school principals are performing education leadership tasks less compared to private school teachers.3- School managers stated that they are performing all the tasks like developing schools? purposes, auditing and evaulating the education, coordinate eduation program, following student success, preserving education time, showing their existense, rewarding the teachers, providing the teachers Professional improvement, improving academical standards and puttıng them into practice, and encourage students to learn all the time.4- Public school managers stated that they are performing the tasks like developing school?s purposes, explaining schools? purposes, auditing and evaluating the education, coordinate education program, following student success, showing their existense, providing the teachers proffessional improvement and encourage students to learn most of the time, whercas they are performing the taskslike preserving education time, rewarding the teachers and improving academical standards and putting them into practice all the time.
