A study related to the primary school administrators' efficiency level in using the knowledge management tools (Antalya case)

A STUDY RELATED TO THE PRIMARY SCHOOL ADMINISTRATORS?EFFICIENCY LEVEL IN USING THE KNOWLEDGE MANAGEMENT TOOLS(ANTALYA CASE)Nurcan F DANTeachers? know-how is a main source of the school processes. The transform of theteachers? personal knowledge into organizational knowledge is the primary goal of theknowledge management in schools. In this study the efficiency level of the primary schooladministrators in using the knowledge management tools was analyzed according to the viewsof administrators and teachers.This study used a quantitative approach for the data collection. It was found thatadministrators and teachers view the primary schools? administrators as efficient enough inusing the knowledge management tools. However, the views of administrators and teachersare significantly different. The administrators state more positive view for their using theknowledge management tools than the teachers do. The views of these groups don?t changesignificantly by the variables of gender, length of working in the position and level ofeducation. Only the branch (subject) of administrators makes difference in their views. Theadministrators sourced from subject teachers view the efficiency in using the knowledgemanagement tools less positive than those sourced from class teachers. Some suggestionsaccording to the findings are as follows:There should be a systematic knowledge management model application at primaryschools; teachers should be encouraged to prepare projects in teams and to use groupware;there should be an electronic database of the school processes. There should be educationalportals for each subject at the local level.
