The results of intravitreal becavizumab injection in the macular edema associated with retina ven occlusion

Abstract (EN)
Aim: To evaluate visual acuity and central foveal thickness changes after intravitreal bevacizumab injection in the treatment of macular edema due to retinal vein occlusion. Material and Method: In this retrospective study, 21 eyes of 21 patients who underwent intravitreal bevacizumab (Avastin) injection with the diagnosis of macular edema due to retinal vein occlusion were examined. Three doses of intravitreal 1.25mg / 0.05ml bevacizumab injection was applied to the patients with one month intervals. Visual acuity (VA), central foveal thickness (CFT) and complications were recorded. The t-test was used to compare the data and p <0.05 was considered statistically significant. Results: The study included 21 eyes of 21 patients with RVT diagnosis, 11 of whom (52.36%) were male and 10 (47.64%) were female. The mean age of the patients was 62.14 ± 9.4 years (46-84). The mean fovea thickness of the patients before injection was 548.0 ± 227.8μm, while it was 272.8 ± 128.6μm in the first month and 269.6 ± 125.7μm in the third month after injection. When compared with preoperative central foveal thickness, a decrease in the thickness of the central foveal was observed in the 1st and 3rd month after the treatment. All these reductions in CFT were statistically significant (p<0,05). The mean visual acuity of the patients before the injection was found as 0.72 ± 0.45 logMAR (0.10-2.0) and 0.39 ± 0.41 logMar (0.0- 1.1) at 1st month after injection and 0.41 ± 0.38 logMar at 3rd month (range: 0.0-1.3). There was a statistically significant increase in best corrected visual acuity (BCVA) at 1st month and 3rd months after injection when compared with pre-injection values (p < 0,05).
