Abstract (EN)

Identity is a concept that adapts to the conditions of time. With the emergence of individuality in the West after the Enlightenment, the historical process towards difference started. However, throughout the historical development of identity, diversity and identity have begun to be expressed mostly with modern societies. While the necessity of individual identities to be built on the modern subject is a trace of the modern mind, with the process evolving into the 21st century, identity has also had to change towards a design process. Because of this change, identity is not perceived as a problem until modern society, but today, intensive issues are spent on issues such as identity politics. In modern society, the phenomenon of identity determined by the society and shaped by the construction process is integrated into the indicators and consumption habits together with the postmodern societies. Postmodern identity and identities exhibiting decentralized, insolent and perpendicular appearances are also manipulated in mainstream cinema. Independent cinema has become an escape cinema in the sense of the mainstream cinema that reinforces the adaptation of postmodern identity and brought the audience behind the scenes of the American Dream. In this respect, the study includes the analysis of the presentation of postmodern identity in Richard Linklater films while aiming to examine the attitude of independent cinema, which is located outside the Hollywood tradition of spreading the dominant ideology, in addressing postmodern identities. As a result, in the light of the findings, the way the independent cinema handles the postmodern identity is discussed. Key words: Postmodernism, identity, postmodern identity, consumer society, postmodern cinema, postmodern narrative, independent cinema, postmodern self-focus, individuality.
