Booklet in investigation of "Ziyadeti's-sifat", Sibgatullah Efendi al-Haydari

This study includes the life of Sibgatullah Efendi al-Haydari and the period of his life and the examination and survey of his manuscript titled 'Risâle fî Tahkîki Ziyâdeti's-sıfât' (A treatise on the subject of the extension of adjectives). In this study, inductive and analysis methods were preferred. Haydari wrote this treatise upon the request of Ahmed Pasha, the governor of Iraq at the time. The work is a kind of refutation of the views of those who object to Teztazânî's ideas on the issue of the 'extension of adjectives' that he dealt with in his works named 'Akâid' and 'Makâsıd'. In the work, the author first quoted the objectors' opinions, and then rejected them in a scholarly and meticulous style. Afterwards, he tried to demonstrate the correctness of Teftazânî's views by supporting them with the views of important scholars of theology, such as Hayâlî and Adudiddin al-'Îcî. In addition, in this study, the reality of the attribution of the author of the treatise in question, the methodology and sources of the work, especially the criticisms directed to it were examined. In the study, the pictures of some pages of the manuscripts were given, the reason for the original writing of the treatise by the author was discussed, the three manuscripts were compared and the differences between these copies were also pointed out. Finally, in the study, the views of scholars on spiritual attributes in terms of the origin and seniority of the universe, definition and types are explained. In addition, the views of scholars on the following three issues regarding the attributes of Allah are also discussed: Are the attributes of Allah obligatory or possible? Are the attributes of God the same as His essence or are they separate from God? Are the attributes of Allah additional to His essence? Haydârî's views on the subject of 'the extension of adjectives' are also included within the framework of the investigation he wrote in the pamphlet.
