Abstract (EN)
Objective: This survey is aimed at monitoring breastfeeding behaviors of primiparous who are in or not in risky age-groups prospectively. Method: This survey is a kind of definitive-prospective study which is carried out between March 20-October 10, 2016 with 306 mothers who are registered at 7 Public Health Centers. The sampling is composed of 68 mothers who are in risky age-group (giving birth to at or under 19 years of age; at or over 35 years of age) and 238 mothers who are not in risky age-group (giving birth to at the age of between 20-34). Mothers and their babies were interviewed twice when they are 1 and 6 months old. While collecting the findings, ID forms, breastfeeding self efficacy short form (BSES-SF) and LATCH Breastfeeding charting system and documentation tool were used. During the findings analysis, Pearson chi-squared test, Fisher exact chi-squared distribution table, Mann-Whitney U test, Wilcoxon matched pairs test, logistic regression analysis and Pearson correlation coefficient test were used. Results: LATCH scores (7.84±1.18, 9.76±0.46, respectively) and BSES-SF scores (55.52±5.44, 56.53±8.3, respectively) of primiparous who are not in risky age-groups in the 1st and 6th months were found to be higher than LATCH scores (7.44±1.26, 9.76±0.5; respectively) and BSES-SF scores (51.11±10.64, 48.42±14.82; respectively) of those who are in risky age-groups. The ratio of breastfeeding during the 1st month was found to be higher among the primiparous mothers who are not in risky age-groups. The ratio of infant formula feeding during the 6th month was found to be higher among the primiparous mothers who are in risky age-groups. It was concluded that there is a meaningful correlation between feeding status and age-groups during the 1st and 6th month. Primiparous who are not in risky age-group breastfeed 14.8 times and 5 times more during the 1st and 6th months respectively. Conclusion: Primiparous mothers in risky age-group have been determined to stop breastfeeding earlier. Key words: Breastfeeding, Primipar, Risky age group.
