Roger trigg, philosophy and metaphysics: Critique of naturalism and relativism

In this study, Roger Trigg's views on philosophy, science and metaphysics with focussing upon both naturalism and relativism are investigated. The greatest danger to philosophy according to Trigg comes from naturalism and relativism. This danger basically emerges as a criticism of metaphysics. In the first chapter naturalism is searched. In the second chapter science is examined as to reality and objectivity. The third chapter is devoted to metaphysics. Trigg's defense of metaphysics is based on the claim that metaphysics is necessary and unavoidable. According to this claim, efforts to eliminate metaphysics do not leave metaphysics behind, and they do not guarantee an exit from metaphysics. Trigg wants to neutralize anti-metaphysical approaches by revealing the contradictions in which they fall. In the fourth chapter postmodern relativistic approaches are taken into consideration. In concluding part, To Trigg, all both naturalistic and relativistic efforts have to preserve metaphysics and rely on metaphysical assumptions.
