Abstract (EN)

This study aim to investigate sleep problems among elderly people and the relationship between sleep problems, anxiety and demographic variables. Also, the predictive role of sleep problems for anxiety among male and females was investigates. 255 people participated in the descriptive and cross-sectional research. The Pittsburg Sleep Quality Scale was used to determine the sleep quality of the participants. Taylor Anxiety Scale was used to measure general anxiety states. To answer the research questions, descriptive analysis (means, standard deviations, percentages and correlations), nonparametric tests (Kruskal Wallis) and linear regression analysis were used. According to the findings, individuals' education level affects their sleep onset latency levels, with those who have a higher education level having lower PSQI Sleep Onset Latency levels. Alcohol use was found to be the only variable that significantly affects sleep disturbance. Marital status was found to affect both PSQI Hypnotic Drugs and PSQI Daytime Dysfunction levels, with married individuals having higher levels compared to singles. In terms of anxiety scores, the study's results indicate that there are no notable differences in anxiety scores concerning the demographic variables examined. There is also a significant difference in nursing role perception based on education level, with high school graduates having a higher nursing role perception level compared to university graduates. Finally, the study found that sleep problems did not predict anxiety levels for either females or males. Findings are discussed on the basis of relevant literature.
