Abstract (EN)
Anatolia, which is very active in terms of seismicity, and especially the province of Asia, which is the subject of this study, has experienced many earthquakes throughout its history. Earthquakes have a multifaceted social and cultural effect such as religion, economy, city and urban life which are belongs the humanity.For this reason, this research is aimed to document the historical earthquakes that the geography in question frequently experienced in Antiquity, through epigraphic, numismatic and literary works and to determine the time interval on the frequency of earthquakes occuring. The obtained data was compared with frequency of occurrence of earthquakes after the 18th century. An estimated time interval for when the next earthquake will occur in this region has been obtained over the resulting historical interval. In addition, what the ancient people thought about this natural phenomenon, how it has affected their lives and daily routine, what kind of actions they have taken after the earthquake were included and evaluated in this context. In this research, the region, referred to as the Province of Asia, is divided into seven geographical regions that constitute the province in Antiquity. The earthquakes between the Ionia earthquakes of 304/3 B.C. in which we can reach the earliest written document and the Karia earthquake of 551 A.D. and the earthquakes that occured in the area corresponding to the aforementioned areas between the years of 1702-2020 were included and concluded in this direction.
