Examining the relationship between attachment styles of young adults in romantic relationships with relationship satisfaction and subjective well-being

Abstract (EN)

Attachment styles, relationship satisfaction and subjective well-being are important issues that have been studied by researchers for many years. Attachment is one of the factors that affect the close relationships of the individual from birth to death, the satisfaction they get from their relationships and their subjective well-being levels. This research was carried out to examine the relationship between attachment styles of young adults in romantic relationships, relationship satisfaction and subjective well-being levels. At the same time, the data of the research variables were compared according to gender, type of union and duration of union. The sample of the study consists of a total of 314 people, 250 females and 64 males, between the ages of 18-35. Participants from all regions of Turkey participated in the research. Personal Information Form, Experiences in Close Relationships Inventory-II, Relationship Satisfaction Scale, Life Satisfaction Scale and Positive-Negative Emotion Scale were used as data collection tools. According to the data obtained from the study, it was determined that there was a moderately negative and significant relationship between anxious and avoidant attachment, relationship satisfaction, and subjective well-being, which are sub-dimensions of the ERI-II scale (p<0.01). When the attachment styles, relationship satisfaction and subjective well-being were compared according to gender, there was no significant difference (p>0.05). When attachment styles, relationship satisfaction and subjective well-being were compared according to the type of relationship and duration of togetherness, it was seen that there was a significant difference between attachment styles, relationship satisfaction and subjective well-being according to the types of partnership (p<0.05). Anxious and avoidant attachment levels show a significant difference according to the duration of the association (p<0.05). According to the results of the analysis performed to determine whether there is a relationship between gender, attachment styles and attachment style groups, no significant relationship was found between gender and attachment styles and attachment styles (p>0.05). It was determined that there was a significant relationship between the types of association and attachment style groups (p<0.05). As a result, in our research; It was found that there was a significant relationship between attachment styles and relationship satisfaction and subjective well-being, and that attachment styles differed according to the types and duration of association. In addition, it was determined that attachment styles, relationship satisfaction and subjective well-being did not differ according to gender. The data obtained from the research and the results of the analysis were discussed within the scope of the relevant literature and various suggestions were made for future research.
