Abstract (EN)

In this study the aim is to investigate the relation between the romantic life experiences, beliefs in romantic affairs, and attitudes of romanticism and mate selection of university students and to determine, whether the attitudes of romanticism and mate selection of university students differs significantly with respect to various variables and the predictive power of romantic affair experiences and beliefs in romantic affairs. The working space of the research are comprised of the 593 university students who were determined through the method of simple random sampling from the Vocational Health High School, Faculty of Education, Faculty of Science and Letters, Faculty of Veterinary, Faculty of Economical and Managerial Sciences of the University of Mehmet Akif Ersoy of Burdur. Data of the Research is collected through the use of the "Personal Information Form" by researchers, the "Romanticism and Mate Selection Attitudes Scale" developed by Cobb, Larson and Watson (2003) and adapted to Turkish by Güngör, Yılmaz and Çelik (2011); "Experiences in Close Relations Inventory" developed by Brennan and friends (1998) and adapted to Turkish by Sümer (2006) and "Belief in Relations Inventory) developed by Eidelson and Epstein (1982) and adapted to Turkish by Kalkan (2006). In analysis of the data; One way ANOVA, with independent groups t-test for analysis regarding differences, for determining the relation among the variables pearson product-moment correlation coefficient and in order to determined to what extent the variables predicted romanticism and mate selection attitudes hierarchic regression analysis was used. Data was analysed using the SPSS 15.0 program. The significance level was taken as .05 in the interpretation of the findings. As a result of the research It was found out that there was a pozitive relation among the sub dimensions of Belief in Relations Inventory and Romantic Experiences Inventory and romanticism and mate selection attitudes, it was found out that romanticism and mate selection attitudes were pozitive predicted by the variables of anxiety dimension, avoidance dimension, despair and unloveability. It was concluded that: looking at the total score of romanticism and mate selection attitudes were predicted significantly according to the variables of gender, relations status, and type of relation. In addition to this, it was found out that looking at the total scores of romanticism and mate selection attitudes were not predicted significantly according to the variables of age, class levels, faculties being attended, and living place.
