Abstract (EN)
This thesis presents a comprehensive study of the leaf motifs found in the Rüstem Pasha Mosque, one of the most distinguished examples of Classical Ottoman tile art. The primary aim of the research is to analyze the historical development, stylistic features, and compositional roles of these motifs, thereby revealing their artistic significance. Leaf motifs are common ornamental elements in tile art, often inspired by nature. This study focuses particularly on the saz yolu and hatayi group motifs. These designs, which abstract natural plant forms, reflect nature while also enhancing the expressive power of the art. Vivid colors such as cobalt blue, turquoise, and coral red are prominently used, creating a rich visual harmony. An examination of the size and placement of the motifs reveals significant variety in both design and execution. From the outer porch (son cemaat yeri) to the main prayer hall, women's galleries, and triangular sections, the mosque is extensively adorned with tiles. This widespread use underscores the role of leaf motifs in creating visual coherence and aesthetic unity throughout the space.
