Determination of the content of "digital design" course offered in hair and make-up applications in accordance with the opinions of educators and master trainers

Objective of this research is the preparation of a curriculum for a "Digital Design" Course contemplated in relation to hair and make-up applications at the Bachelor's Degree Program of Hair and Beauty Department, Art and Design Faculty of Gazi University through investigation of the opinions of educators and master trainers with respect to required contents for the course.In this study, descriptive research method based on screening model has been used. Screening models are defined as research approaches aiming to describe a past or present situation in its existing form. A survey questionaire was used in this research as a tool of data gathering. In constituting the survey, academicians, educators and 21 randomly selected master trainers were consulted and expert opinion was obtained. Subsequently, a survey consisting of 61 questions was prepared, and was applied to a sample group of educators and master trainers.Research space consists of all Beauty and Haircare Services educators, and master trainers working in Ankara at the coiffeur and beauty parlours but are graduates of the Coiffeurie and Beauty Knowhow Teaching Program. Research sample group is formed of total 100 persons including only beauty and haircare services consumer teachers employed in various provinces of Turkiye, and master trainers working at the coiffeur and beauty parlours of Ankara.Data obtained from the applied survey were assessed with the use of statistical software package "SPSS 18.0". Frequency (N), percentage distributions of opinions expressed in the survey were calculated, and arithmetic means were taken. In order to determine the variation of opinions expressed by the groups, initially the Kolmogorov-Smirnov Test (K-S) was applied to see whether there is normal distribution, and afterward Mann-Whitney U Test was done. For the identification of meaningfulness, p=0.05 meaningfulness level was used.According to K-S test results, since Meaningfulness Level(P) was (P) < a = 0.05, it was concluded that the variables did not show normal distribution. In accordance with this conclusion, the use of non-parametric tests were required to test the hypotheses and consequently Mann-Whitney U Test was applied to the data. According to the results of this test, it was observed that a meaningful variation in opinions had existed in 34 questions, and none in 22, out of the total 56 among the groups consisting of teachers and master trainers.In view of the data obtained, frequencies, percentages and Mann-Whitney U Test results, the suggested subjects were identified for the "Digital Design" Course contemplated for Hair and Make-up Applications, and the course curriculum content was prepared.Key Words: Course Content, Digital Design, Hair Design, Make-up Design
