Safadi's (D. 764/1363) el-Wafi bi'l Wefeyat the life of our Prophet

Mamluks (648-923 / 1250-1517), which are among the major states in the history of Islam, have kept important regions such as Damascus, Hejaz and Egypt under their rule for a long time. The Mamluks achieved remarkable achievements as a result of the victories against the Crusaders and the defeat of the Mongols in the battle of Ayn-ı Câlût (658/1260). As a result of these achievements, scientists coming to Cairo from different places took refuge here. In this period, one of the most productive fields is undoubtedly history. Many historians who grew up in the Mamlukid Period, either as adetached or in a part of his work wrote the life of the Prophet Muhammed.Safadî (d. 764/1363) is one of the authors who wrote the life of the Messenger of Allah during this period.His biography of famous scholars and statesmen of his period, a small part of the first volume of al-Wâfî was devoted to the life of the Messenger of Allah.This work of the author sheds light on the general understanding of historiography of the period, and also contributes to the understanding of the syrah writing during the Mamlukid Period.In our study, firstly some information about Safadî's life and works are given.Then, the small part that Safedî wrote the life of the Messenger of Allah in al-Wafi was evaluated in terms of content, method-style and resources. During this evaluation, the relevant part of al-Wâfî was compared with the works of Ibn Sayyidunnâs (d. 734/1334) and Ibn al-Davâdârî (died after 736/1336). The purpose of this study is to present the relevant part of Safadî's al-Wâfî as a whole and to make some evaluations about the understanding of the syrah writing of the period.
