Abstract (EN)

This study, which examines the life of Abdulvahid al-Ruyani and his work Bahru'l-Mazheb, consists of an introduction, three chapters and a conclusion. In the introduction, general information about the subject and purpose of the study is given. In the first part, information is given about the life of Abdulvahid al-Ruyani, who lived in the 5th century, his scientific personality, his students, teachers, works and the political situation of the period. In the second chapter, a general introduction was made to Rûyânî's work called Bahrü'l-Mezheb, and the commentary method and important features of the work were emphasized. The work, which is in printed form in 14 volumes, is essentially a commentary on Muzani's work called al-Muhtasar. One of the most fundamental features of the work that makes it important within the sect is that it includes both intra-sectarian and inter-sectarian conflicts. In the third chapter, the sources of Bahru'l-Mazheb were identified and its importance in the Shafi'i school of thought was emphasized. The work, which has the systematics of classical jurisprudential works, was written by making use of almost all Shafi'i sources up to its time, especially Mawardi's al-Hawi'l-Kabir, although it is a commentary on Muzani's al-Mukhtasar. Considering both the content of the work and the sources it uses, the work appears to be an encyclopedic work. In the conclusion part of the thesis, the findings of the study were evaluated.
