Abstract (EN)

The aim of this research, was to compare two e-leraning environments which are virtual world based learning environment designed according to 3D maturity model level-1 and web based e-learning environments depend on the student variables (achievement, learning style, personality, motivation, and social presence). Quasi experimental comparative post-test design was used in this research. Quantitative and qualitative methods together was conducted. In this study quantitative and qualitative data collected and analyzed and after findings gathered up. The target population of the research was about 6000 students of Nursing Undergraduate Completion Program in Ataturk University Distance Education Application and Research Center at 2011-2012 academic seasons. The sample consisted of 116 voluntery students among 600 students who were selected by simple random sampling from the population. The research treatments were carried out 8 weeks including 2-week orientation activities and 6-week actual teraments. After performing the synchronous and asynchronous treatments the achievement test was executed. Kolb?s learning styles inventory, Hacettepe personality inventory, e-learning motivation survey, survey of social presence and interviews were carried out as the treatments continuing. No significant difference was found between the two e-learning environments according to the learners? achievement, motivation and social presence. No significant effects of learning styles and personalities were found on student?s achievement. Yet, vi Second Life environment appealed more positive perceptions and opinions of the participants then the web based environment.
